Tram Musings

I have a theory about people who commute. We're all lazy. We hide behind our ''It's for the environment'' badge. Oh yeah, we're green...green with envy. Envious of all you people that travel in air conditioned comfort to work. Not having to endure any unpleasant odours apart from your own. Not having to brush up against lewd men, not having to avert your eyes when pregnant, old or disabled people want a seat. Not having to give up said seat, all the while cursing yourself that you even have the gall to think that it's a sacrifice. But it is, because we are lazy.

We can say we travel on trains, trams and buses because it's cheaper. And this is true, it is cheaper. But isn't the real reason that it's a chance to catch a little extra shuteye in the mornings; it's a chance to listen to that new album on your iPod, eyes closed; it's a chance to read another chapter of the latest Tim Winton classic.

Face it, we just like being chauffeur-driven...even if it does resemble a train journey to Auschwitz.
